Camera-Variant Calibration and Sensor Modeling for Practical Photogrammetry in Archeological Sites

چکیده
With the appearance of low-cost and high-resolution consumer-grade digital cameras, a practical three-dimensional (3D) measurement system using a consumer-grade digital camera is greatly anticipated in various fields. In these circumstances, the authors have been concentrating on developing a practical 3D measurement system that includes photogrammetric software called the Image Based Integrated Measurement (IBIM) system. The IBIM system device consists of full/half-mirrors, a consumer-grade digital camera, and a laser distance meter. The most remarkable advantage of the system is its ability to calculate exterior orientation parameters, interior orientation parameters, and pseudo ground control points (GCPs) without using scale bars or the GCPs in the object field. The system has the ability to calibrate multiple cameras of different resolutions using a camera-variant parameter set. However, there remains one issue that needs to be resolved before this system can be effectively used, namely, improvement of the system which does not depend on the IBIM system device. With this motive, a practical photogrammetry method using a consumer-grade digital cameras and a hand-held laser distance meter is proposed. To test our proposed method, the bundle of distances from the center camera position to the feature points in the object field were measured individually at archaeological sites in Greece. In order to evaluate the possibility and practicability of the proposed photogrammetry method, this paper describes and evaluates the camera calibration techniques using images from multiple cameras of different resolutions and a bundle of distances. متن کاملEstimation of Interior Orientation and Eccentricity Parameters of a Hybrid Imaging and Laser Scanning Sensor
Nowadays hybrid imaging and laser scanning sensors are common for terrestrial surveying purposes. The basic idea is to complement laser scanning, which directly yields 3D information, with digital image capture, which delivers high resolution images for measurement and texturing. The image sensors are internally built in a scanner or externally mounted on top. The advantage of external mounted ...

The use of test sites in photogrammetry is well known and mainly applied for the following two applications: Test sites are necessary within the sensor calibration process, especially when in-situ calibration methodologies are taken place. This topic especially gains in importance when the new and more complex digital airborne sensor systems are considered. On the other hand, test fields provid...
متن کاملOn the Role of Self-calibration Functions in Integrated Sensor Orientation
Research on frame camera self-calibration started more than fifty years ago. Its use has become routine and an essential part of camera simultaneous orientation and calibration procedures, even for digital large format cameras as the “Digital Camera Calibration” EuroSDR project has demonstrated. Later, the concept was extended to the geometric calibration of various sensors geometries and to te...
متن کاملAutomatic Camera Calibration in Close-range Photogrammetry
Automatic camera calibration via self-calibration with the aid of coded targets is now very much the norm in closerange photogrammetry. This is irrespective of whether the cameras to be calibrated are high-end metric, or the digital SLRs and consumer-grade models that are increasingly being employed for image-based 3D measurement. Automation has greatly simplified the calibration task, but ther...
